MANY CALLS.
FIRE BRIGADE BUSY
Early yesterday afternoon the City Fire Brigade was summoned to a grass fire just north of St. Andrew's Oollege, on Papanui road. The Brigade made a good sate, and little-damage was dono. Shortly before seven o'clock last night another call was received to the Shades Hotel, where there was a small fire under the roof of one of the back wings Of the building. A few minutes sufficed to deal with the outbreak.,. The roofing iron was taken off and a small "first aid" hose was used. The engines had just returned to the station again when & call was received from the Foresters' Hotel in Oxford terrace, at the back of which a number of packing cases and straw packing had become ignited. Tho fire had a good hold, both in the.straw and looselypacked wooden boxes. Slight damage was. done to an iron shod against which the cases were piled.
