THREAT RESENTED.
TRAMWAY BOARD AND COUNCIL
On December 29th, the Heathcote County Council wrote to the Christchurch Tramway Board regardinc the running of its observation bus m Wainoni road when the road was closed to heavy traffic, and threatening legal proceedings. At last night's meeting of the County Council, a letter was received from the Tramway Board objecting to the tone of tho letter in question. "The sting is in the tail of the letter," said the chairman, Mr C. Flavell, who added that the threat should never have been made, and it was quite without the authority ofthe Council. Mr J. L. Danks moved that the letter be withdrawn in toto. The Tramway Board, he said, had inaugurated a service to give visitors to Christchurch an opportunity of seeing the City and suburlw. Even though Wainoni road was closed to heavy traffic, the observation bus- would do little harm, and it would be a courtesy on the part of the Council to allow the Board to run that bus on the road. The manager of the Tramway Board, Mr Frank Thompson, had admitted that he had inadvertently omitted to apply for the necessary permission, and it must Ke remembered that the Board had done great service at Cashmere.
Mr W. Searff protested emphatically against withdrawing the letter, but the resolution was carried, Mr Searff insisting that 'his vote against it bo recorded.
