WALTHAM SCHOOL.
The monthly meeting of the Waltham School . Committee was presided over by the chairman, , Mr A. Turner. Other members present were: i Messrs W. Pegley, A. Simmonds, W. Power, | H. Watts, W. Schumacher, H. Palmer, and j W. Symons. The resignation-of the head- ; master (Mr C. Bourke) and Mr J. McGuigan j (assistant) were received and accepted with j extreme regret, the secretary being instruct- , od to convey the committee's appreciation I of their services during their term. The i recommendation of the Board in reference to the appointment of Mr A. J. Wickes (headmaster) and Mr P. M. Archer (assistant) were confirmed. An appeal from the Blind Instituto met with a ready response. In order to encourage the children to use the • baths it was decided to grant all school . children free use of the swimming bath at all times. After considerable discussion, Ashburton was decided upon for the holding ol tho picnic. School children, and those who have just gained their proficiency, are to be carried free, also one parent of each family. To avoid interfering with school work as far as possible, Thursday, February 3rd, is the date decided upon. In connexion with the queen carnival, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded all those who so ably assisted to make the scheme a success.
