FEWER BIRTHS AND MORE DEATHS. ' (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGItAM.) AVELLINGTON, January 13. Du ing December the total births registered for the urban areas amounted to 1148 as against 1229 in November, a decrease of 81. Deaths in December were 563, an increase of 92. as compared with the previous mouth. Of the total deaths, males contributed 31'and females 253. Sixty-four of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 11.33 per cent, of the whole number. Fifty-four of these were under one year of age.
