A labourer, Daniel McArthur, aged 33 years, was charged with stealing a pair of trousers, valued at £2 10s, the property of Frank Hooper. Detective-Sergeant J. B. Young said that nt 2 p.m. on January Uth Mr Hooper had seen accused come round the back of his residence. McArthur was very much under the influence of drink, bo complainant had not answered the knock on the door. Later, he went outside, and saw accused going out the front gate with a pair of trousers, which ho hnd token off the line. After hearing the evidence, the case was adjourned to allow of further information being obtained. The Public Trustee, as administrator in the estate of the late James Horrell, obtained judgment by default from W. Carpenter, Amberley, for £5 15b 3d, and costs £2 ss, and from "W. J Leach, Scargity, for 17s 9d, and costs £2 6e 6d. A youth was charged before the juvenile court with theft, the Magistrate ordering the la"3 to report to the Child Welfare Officer for twelve months.
