TUAPEKA JUBILEE.
COUNTY CLERK'S GENEROSITY
LTHE PEEBS Spwlil Service.]
DUNEDIN, January lU,
The Tuapeka County has seen better and more exciting days than those it enjoys now, and its history will not soou be forgotten in New Zealand. Gabriel's Gully and the other diggings iu this district are now almost things of the past, but the jubilee celebrations at Lawrence yesterday revived many memories. The attendance was large, and in addition to representatives of all local bodies, there were present:—Sir James Allen, the Hon. Mr Anderson, and Messrs J. Horn, J. McD. Dickson, and F, Waitc. M.P.'s. Several presentations were made to Mr J. J. Woods, who has been County Clerk since the formation of the Council 50 years ago. Among the presents was a cheque for £SO. to bo used by Mr Woods as he saw fit. Mr Woods immediately decided to present the sum to three hospitals in tho district, to be divided equally. As this gift will carry a £ for £ Government subsidy, the hospitals will benefit to the extent of £IOO.
