The Control Commission's experts who visited Konigsberg reported that, new works of an ultra-modern type had been constructed . over a perimeter of many miles. The Germans argued that nothing had been done in contravention of tho Treaty. Of Versailles. The Allies replied that tho ,Treaty allowed the maiutenanace of the fortifications on tho condition they were in in 1919, but did not sanction new works. At this time the League of Nations Council in session at Geneva was considering Germany's claims that Allied military control of her territories should cease. The disarmament question naturally threatened to prevent an agreement being reached, the French Cabinet ofc first_ stipulating that tho eastern fortifications he destroyed before Allied military cqntrol ceased. After a threat of resignation by M, Mriand thoy yielded, agreeing to the substitution of league of Nfttjops for Allied control in Germany on January 31st.
