SYDNEY, January II
A heat wave is being experienced in the southern portion oi Australia. Jfany elderly people are unable U> stand the strain. Seven deaths occurred in Adelaide, and a man and woman died in Melbourne. Hundreds of people slept on the Victorian beaches last night to escape the stifling indoor air. Patients in the hospitals wero tiro worst .sufferers. Ambulances wero kept busy owing to people collapsing from heat.

Five additional deaths are reported as a result of the heat wave, making a total of twelve.
