Hayward, rhfiirman of tho Citizens' Association, said to it representative of The Pjif.ss yesterday:--J 'T think that the result of the election is a. matter of great satisfaction to the City itself, and of congratulation to the Citizens' Association inasmuch as it, shows that the ratepayers arc still following the lead of tho Association, and have confidence in it. The Association is endeavouring to introduce new men into tho public life of the City to replace tho older men. who liavo borno the burden of civic affairs for many years. It was successful,in in I rod titling -Mr E. W. Whito as a member ot tho Tramway Board, and on Tuesday tho ratepayers accepted two men now to public bodv work—Mr V. W. Freeman and Sir. Francis Boys. It is the Association's intention to try and induce other men, who have not previously taken an active part in local bodywork, to offer their services. "I wish to express, also, my personal appreciation of the excellent manner in which the ratepayers supported the Association's policy and its candidates in connexion with'lhe Waimakariri 'I rust election." Votes by Declaration. The number of declaratory votes received on the Waimakariri Trust election poll is 180, comprising 92 trom the City area, 62 from the Waimakariri east area and 26 from. Gust. Some votes are still to be recorded, but they will not itffert the result of the election. Deputy Returning Oncers. A criticism of the Waimakariri Trust in engaging superannuated Government men with good incomes as deputy-re-luruina officers for Wednesday's voting, was replied to yesterday by MrC W. Hervev, the Trust's secretary. Mr Uervey said that superannuated men hud bee" employed because they had greater experience of tho class of work, and were consequently tho best men tor tho job. ______^^____
