LIFE-SAVING.
ROYAL SOCIETY AWARDS. A meeting of the coraimtee of the Canterbury Head Centre of tho ltoyal Life-Saving Society was held' last evening, Mr S. K. Bassett presiding. There were also present Mrs C. M, Davies, Miss D. Brown, Messrs V. G. SpiOer, ,1 F. Berry, W. H. Nicholls, I'. I*. Wicks C. W. Smith, Geo. B, Pearce, F. J. Glackin, and F. S. Taylor. It was resolved to write to councils asking them to assist in beach 'supervision during tho holidays and the summer mouths. Tho secretary reported that awards had been granted as under: — . Award of Merit—Edgar ,W. Main, Vicary Hunter, Victor E. Freeman, Ceorgo B. Schou, and J. G. Malcolmson.

Teachers' Certificates—Technical College 1, New Brighton School 1. Bronze Medallions—Technical College 4, Svdenhara School 1. New Brighton School 2, Rangi Ruru o. School of Art 1, Boys' High School-20. Proficiency Certificates —Brighton School 4, Technical College 4, Sydenham School 3, Queen Philippa's School G, Boys' High School 8, Girls' High School 12, School of Art 1. Elementary Certificates —New Brighton School 4. Sydenham School 3, Quocii Philippa's School 4, Cathedral Grammar School 10, Rangi Ruru 11. Tho chairman said that these awards were verv creditable, ami that it would be a record year if ihey came in as they had so far.
