FIRE AT RANGIORA.
BRIGADE'S SMART SAVE. A remarkably good save was made by the Fire Brigade at 1.30 a.m. yesterday. Noticing a glare at the back of the premises: of Mr J. ; ,Fitzgibbon, butcher," and Mr W. T. Wilson, printer,' in Victoria street, Mr C. Butters gavo tho alarm, and the Fire Brigade was quickly on the spot. The outbreak was discovered in the back of tho premises, and before it was suppressed a fair amount of damage was dono. A room used as a salt house, which connected with the main building, and contained a ton of salt, was burnt out, and tho outside wall of Mr Fitzgibbon's shop was also considerably damaged by the fire. The premises are situated in'the centre of a large block of old buildings, and only by the promptness of the Brigade a very disastrous fire was prevented. Mr Fitzgibbon's buildings and plant arc insured in tho New Zealand .Fire Insurance Co.'s. Office. The damage is. estimated at about £uo.
