AUCKLAND, January 12. j^j, cn - rr cns and fine weather made conditions almost ideal for play in the Dominion bowling tournament to-day, when the rinks championship opened. A total of 170 rinks entered, and three rounds of 21 heads were ii'.aved. Nine rounds will be played before the rest section stage is reached. Harrawav last vear's champion skip, lost one game to Eervon <Petouc'>. Thomson (Southland), who skipped the runner-up rink last year, had onlv one win, one defeat being administered l,v'pilkincton (Hamilton), who skipped the winning rink in 1023. Hremner (West End, ~nd). winner in 1021, had three victories One of the surprises was the three losses' sustained by Parker (Auckland), one of the most prominent local players. Trusoott (Carlton), who has won the Auckland Christmas tourney for the past two years, was unexpectedly beaten by Chapman (Ponsonby). in the third round. Parsons (Ponsonby),' who had three wins, defeated the rrark New Plvmouth skip, A. K. Smart 29-G. Walker (Auckland) made n fine recovery against Kelly (Dominion road), scoring six on the 20th head, to win 22-20. Results: —
