Tlie Dominion Bowling Tournament, which is tins year under the control r.t the Auckland Centre, commenced in beautiful weather to-day with the singles championship. The rinks championship will commence <;n Wednesday and the pairs next ilondiiy. There was a" record entry cf Xl competitors, comprising a party from Australia and prominent bowlers fiojh oil part 3of the Dominion. Of this total S5 were left in the singles championship at tlie close of play to-day. Seventeen of those are two-lifeis and GS are onelifers. Four rounds were played to-day, the position in the different sections at the end of the 'on:111 round being: SECTION A. No loss. Fletcher (Takaks): one loss, Torrance (Ponsonby), Pilkington (Hamilton), Addison (Edendale), Bremner (West End, Auckland). SECTION B. No loss, Allatt (Melbourne); one loss, Gatland (Onehunga), Hindlc (Balmacewan), Could (Carlton), Rownsiey (Papatoctoc). SECTION C. No !oSS. Edwards (Temuka); one loss, Hoskin? Notes on the Play. Past champions competing include J. Kilgour (Carlton) winner in 1914 M Walker Ingram(Wellington.) 1917, . E. Harraway (Dunedin) 1920, J. 0. .Rigby (Dunedw) 1022 J Best (Danedin) 1925. Last year s winn'or, W. Foster (Caledonian, Dunedin) is not competing. . , Mclntyre (Hamilton) had a sensational win over Maxwell Walker (Auckland) in Section K, scoring 21 to 7. Walker waa almost eliminated in the fourth round, lasher (Green Island) being three up with one head to go. Fastier foolishly threw a long head. His first bowl waß five feet away, and this proved to be the closest bowl he threw up. Walker drew four inside that, and won by one. . Best (Green Island), a former champion, found the going in Section G too hard to allow his machine-like delivery to be brought into full play. Ho gavo a poor display, and was eliminated. Parsons (Ponsonby) once again proved that he Is a singles player of outstanding morit, and was undefeated in Section I, winning all his games with ease. Bremner (West End), runner-up in 1924, lost ono of his lives to a youthful exponept, Fletcher (Takak'a) in Section A. Fletcher was unbeaten. _ Allatt (Melbourne - ) upheld the prestige of the visiting Victorians by being undefeated in Section B. . Kilgour (Carlton), a former champion, heads Section J with no loßses.
