SPORTING.

TURF GOSSIP. , Nominations for events at the Victoria B.C. Autumn, Australian J.C. Autumn, and A.J.C. Warwick Farm Meetings close to-day. Tlio Government's share of taxation at the Auckland Boeing Club's Summer Meetings amounted to £27,897 10s 3d. The Christchurch owner, Mr J. McCormack, seems to have been fortunate since entering the ranks of owners about eighteen months ago, for threo of his purchases in Tarloton, Nincompoop, and Precious have all won stake money. Nincompoop seems to have paid his way handsomely, for on ihe West Coast during the holidays he won four races, and in his last start paid ft good price on the totalisator. Precious was a winner at the Methven Meeting, and Tarleion's record for the present season is: five starts, two wins, two seconds, and once unplaced. Tutankhamen, who was bred in Australia, where he was purchased and raced in tho Dominion first at two years old. winning six minor events at three years old, will be racing in Australia shortly, as lie was shipped to Sydney during the holidays. Atoriria, purchased last week by Mr W. H. Gaisford for a thousand gutreas, has been nominated for hack events at tho Wellington Meeting. Ateriria should amply repay tho owner of Commendation, for the Rossendale colt has only a victory in tho Waipa Plate to his credit so far, and he is a game and speedy sort with breeding of the best. The Quin Abbey gelding, Heisler, did well at tho West Coast Meetings during the holidays, accounting for four events, in two of which ho carried the steadier of 9-11. Heisler haa always been speedy, but the six furlongs in the company ho met previously has generally been just a bit too far.

Though Desert Glow has been nominated for tho leading events at the AVellington Itacing Club's Summer Meeting, it is unlikely that he will, start. His trainer, F. E. Loomb, at Te Awamutu, will have several others enRaged at Takaptuia at the end of the month, and probably Desert Glow will also race there. . *

The Ashburton Trotting Club has generously offored to provide tho stake for one of the trotting races on the Ashburton County Racing Club's programme on Saturday next.

_ Some Abbey, who caused a sensation at Iteefton on Saturday when she collapsed at the beginning of tho Crorjadun Handicap, has made a good recovery, and wag brought to Greyiuourh yesterday.
