CAKES GALORE.
RESULT OF A WIDE APPEAL. (FROM Ofa OWH COBRESrOKDEXT.) LONDON, November 27. From Mrs A. V. Wilson, a New. Zealand lady now in London, there recently appeared in many London, suburban, and Provincial papers a letter asking for a recipe for an English currant cake, so that she, and others, could follow the recipe on he r return to the Dominion. As a result, Mrs Wilson has received no fewer, than 1563 ■ recipes, to say nothing of Eccles cakes, Edinburgh currant buns, Scripture cakes, recipe books, and gifts ot all kinds. Writing her acknowledgements through the columns of the t'ress, Mrs W r ilson says: "It i* impossible fo r me to thank yoif and your kind readers enough for the truly magnificent way they have responded to my recent request for old English currant cake recipes to tako home with me to New Zealand. ... I asked for currant cakes particularly because currants are said to have a higher food value than • beef, or any • sort of fruit. Nowadays when the world's best doctors are directing so much attention to food values it behoves the careful housewife to give her family, and particularly her youngsters, the very best food she can within her means."
