SYDNEY, January 8,
The appeal to the public to subscribe £IOO,OOO towards the Sydney University Cancer Research Fund, issued a few months ago, has proved a splendid success. Generously backed by the efforts of the Press, organisations of all descriptions and private munificence, it officially closed at the end of the year with £119,000 in hand.
Since then it has increased to £123,000, and money is still coming in. With the unexpectedly large funds in hand, the latest laboratories and apparatus are already in working order, and the nucleus of a staff is at work.
Nothing now stands in the way of launching the first big offortin the proposed wider campaign for the' treatment of tuberculosis and the attempt to perfect curative methods. The chief present objective will be to improve existing me'thods of treatment. Committees composed of representatives of hospitals and specialists will exhaustively collect and tabulate all data connected with the research.
