ST. PATRICK'S COLLEGE
NEW SITE ACQUIRED. A property at Silverstream of 800 acres has recently been purchased by the' Marist Fathers, who control • St. Patrick's College, Wellington. This property formerly belonged to the Cotter Estate, and comprised about 200 acres of flat country, and about 600 acres of hills and slopes. The Order's intention at present is to build a college on portion of the land, which work, ifc is hoped, will be undertaken in the near future, although the plans of the buildings and the layout of the ground have not yet been completed. If the college is built at Silverstream it is probable the present St. Patrick's College and other buildings in Cambridge terrace will be retained for scholastic purposes. .Already the college authorities have acquired some, 100 acres of land in the neighbourhood of the Seatoun tunnel, but this land has not as yet been utilised.
The Marist Fathers have for some years past felt that the city premises of St. Patrick's College are quite inadequate for their increased needs, and to cope -with the growth in the number of day scholars and boarders. They have thus been forced to seek more commodious quarters elsewhere, so as to be able to provide for the present and future requirements of the college.
