ASHLEY COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Ashley County Council met at Loburn or. Thursday last, present being Cra. H. G. Thilpott (in the chair), 3ennett, Fitzgibbon, Hutchison, McCrackcn, and Pulley. Leave. of absence was granted the chairman, Mr J. P. M. O'Halloran. Mr Hutchison reported on the tunnel road conference, and members held that it was advisable- to delay action until tho Railway Department had carried out ita improvements. Mr Hutchison also reported on the recent meeting, at Amberlcy, of the general conimitteo of reception of the Duke and Duchess of York. Xho transactions of the committee were approved, and Mr Hutchison was asked to continue attendance. In the absenco of a report from *ho sub-committee on the financing of the reception, the Council unanimously resolved that the expenditure at Amberley should not exceed £3OO, and that tho Ashley County quota should not exceed £2O A copy of the proposed address at the Christchurch ieception was received from the Town Clerk. Preference was given to an amended copy as read by tho clerk, and it wan resolved that this copy should be finally revised by Mr Hutchison and the Uerk, and should then be forwarded to the Town Clerk as the Council's rendering of tho address. Mr FitzgibboD teported on the widening of the crossing at Carboy's Gully, Carr's road. It was decided to hold the work over till tho close of the financial year.

Mr Pulley was asked to look at the Makirikiri Bank road in response to a request for repairs. It was decided that Tuesday, March 22nd, wou'd be the last day for the payment of rates, including the Ashley River Trust rate, prior to the addition of 10 per cent. The same day, March 22nd, would also be the last day for tho registration of dogs, prior to the additioD of two shillings per collar.

It was also decided thnt no further sales of ammunition should bo niado savo for cash payment.
