CITY RATES.
COMING IN SLOWLY. The Christehurch City rates are coming in rather more slowly than last year. The demand for rates was circulated on August 18th, but up to January 7th only a quarter of the levy had been paid. For the year 1926-27 the total levy is £301,234, of which £56,661 has now been paid. Last year, 1925-26, the levy was £230,976, and at the same period of January, £56,777 had been received by the Collector. ■ The penalty for-failure to make payment in time, will be made" operative early in March.
