Shaw it was resolved that tenders be called for the -uppiving of ban-l music lor the Gala. .... , It was decided to in the official programme as an additional attraction for the evening, a torchlight procession and a nre-n orks display, also "to add to the sports programme an event open to amateurs, viz., the (iala Handicap of 110 yards (openi, the C.A.A. Association to be asked to supervise the event. The secretary was instructed to write to the St. John Ambulance Association asking that a party be* detailed for duty at New Brighton on the '2:2 nd.
.Messrs T. Robins and J. Orsborne, delegates troiu the South Brighton Gala Committee and Progress League, stated that their members would be pleased to assist at tho Gala, and that any of the League's side-shows that were available would be at the Committee's disposal. 1 he offer was accepted with thanks. A number of additional subscriptions, both local and outside, were reported, both in money and in kind, including a cheque for £lO, a cabinet gramophone, a handsome attache case, two pairs of court shoes, and others. On the motion of Mr L. Hardie it was resolved-that in the matter of the beauty competition, that the idea of the final decision being arrived at by popular vote be abandoned, and that a gentleman residing beyond the Borough he asked to accept the position of judge. The preliminary stage of the judging in the selection of six finalists will commence on Monday, when for the first two days Mesdames J. H. Shaw, 11. Ragg, and J. Bellamy will be asked to officiate. On Gala Day tho parade of the candidates is to arrive at the Stadium at 'J.3O p.m., when the 6 finalists will be selected. Surf Club. As a result of the recent inter-club competitions; the Central Surf Bathing and Life Saving Club win for the season 1 the Kay Blank Cup, the Benson Shield, and the Sumner Cup, a triple performance, of which the club is justly proud. The annual contest for the Watson Cup t'o r singlehanded rescue work, and the Owles Cup, a four-man alarm event, will he hold in the near future. Soutli Brighton. The Gala held at Pleasant. Point, and organised conjointly by the South Brighton Progress Leaguo and the Pleasant Point Boat and \achting Club, was, without doubt, one of the most successful and enjoyable of its kind ever held in the district. Tho j weather was ideal, the attendance greatly in excess of anticipations, while | in the' matter of amusements and enter- I tainmcnts, the visitors were very I amply catered for. Notwithstanding ' the fact that the Tramway Board put ! on a fleet of Gala buses to cope with | the increased traffic, that number [ proved altogether insufficient. The j committee are delighted with the result of their joint efforts, and extend their best thanks to the many helpers. Tho gross takings amount to £290, so that it ii hoped there will be quite j a respectable sum, plus subsidy, avail- ! able for improvements to the Pleasant Point Domain. Tt is the intention of the Progress. League to continue their efforts in the i direction of effecting still further improvements to the Domain. Borough Council. The Borough Council will not meet again until January 17th. School Committee. ; At the meeting of the Central School ; Committee on Wednesday, at which ; the chairman, Mr H. A. Glasson, pre- j sided, it was decided, in conjunction j with the North and South Brighton ! Schools and the Council Employees Committee, to hold the annual Borough picnic at Pleasant Point on "Wednesday, February 16th.
