PROSECUTIONS UNDER NEW ACT (PBESS ASSOCIATION TILEGBAM.) WELLINGTON, January 7. The first prosecutions under the Police Offences Amendment Act of last session, giving power to the police to arrest without a warrant persons they have reasonable cause to believe have insufficient lawful means of support, were heard by Mr W. G. Riddoll, S.M., to-day. Three men who had been sleeping out on Mount Victoria were advised to get work, convicted, and ordered to conic up within six months.
