SWIMMING.
NEW ZEALAND RECORD BROKEN
D. I\ Lindsay, who has" been selected as a member of the Canterbury team to compete at the New Zealand Championship swimming carnival at Auckland, swam a challenge race against A. Stokes and P. Hill at the East Christchurch baths last evening. The distance was 880 yds, the baths being 25 yards in length. Lindsay won easily by 35 yards from Stokes, and Hill was 15 yards further back. Lindsay broke the New Zealand record for the distance, his time being llmiu 54 3-sscc. The previous best time registered in the Dominion was llmin 59 2-ssec by A. Baird, of Auckland. Stokes' time was 12min 32 4-5 sec, and Hill's 12min 45 l-sscc. Lindsay covered tho first quarter mile in smin 48sec.
