"It appears that the accused has been using the Army home as a base from which ha conies forth ab night to steal," said Chief Detective Ward in the Magistrate's Court to<lay when Leslie Robert Ashiield, a seaman, aged 20, admitted the theft from a motorcar of a suitcase containing article* worth £35 belonging to Norman Henry Fraser.

Ashfield, the Chief Detective added, came to the Dominion ' as a seaman eight months ago. He had already served a jmonth's imprisonment for theft, and he had also been convicted and ordered to come up for sontenoo when called upon for vagrancy. Of tho articles which were in the stolen suitcase £l3 worth had been sold and had not been recovered.

Accused was remanded to appear on Friday for sentence. In tho meantime the Probation Officer is to make a report.
