FIREMAN INJURED.

ARM TORN BY TABLETHOLDER. ACCIDENT ON EXPRESS TRAIN. A fireman on the engine of the Par-nassus-Christchurch express had his arm torn from elbow to wrist yesterday afternoon. The express was travelling to Christchurch, and as the engine passed the tablet apparatus on the Balcairn station the fireman, L. W. Brown, noticed that tho projecting arm did not seem to have taken the tablet properly. He thrust out his hand to grasp it, and was unable to withdraw before he was injured by the projecting arm. The train was held up while Brown's injury was attended to, and later the wound was dressed by Dr. T. A. Will, at Rangiora. One of tho passengers volunteered for firebox duty and took the injured fireman's place.
