A number of the first round matches has not yet been played owing to several prominent competitors staying over for the completion of the Wanganui tournament, which was delayed by rain. Melody, D. France, Scott, N. Wilson, end Malfroy (Wellington), Haege (Victoria), Lampo (Wanganui), and Pearso (Temuka) were amongst those who arrived this afternoon from Wanganui, and fhey will all be engaged in elimination matches to-morrow. The only notable players defeated to-day were Fitzgerald and Brewster (of tho Now South Wales' touring team), who -went under 6-3, 6-2, to a. pair of local men-, Ellis and Richards, in tho men's dpublcs, ana Melody (Wellington), who was beaten by | Webster (New Plymouth), 6-1, 7-9, 6-0. McCausland (New South Wales) and Miss BrewBter (New Plymouth) had a narrow escape in the combined doubles at the hands of a youthful pair, Pease (Han-era) and ilTss B.
