MOTOR-PACED RACING.
ENGLISH PARK STADIUM. On Saturday night the Mairchau Sports Club will hold the postponed Christmas night sports meeting at English Park/ Stadium. A programme of more than usual merit has been arranged, consisting of motor-paced racing, quarter mile New Zealand championship, and several handicap races. A motor-paced match race has been arranged between Alec Rit- , chie and Hector Burnand, both being experts at the art of following the rollers. This style of racing has a fascination for all lovers of thrills. The riders and their pacers will start off alongside one another, and the race will bo over three distances of two miles each. The New Zealand quarter mile championship has attracted a representative entry, 9 the nominations including Phil O'Shea, the redoubtable sprinter, and late New Zealand track champion; Jack Bearman, who met ■with great success in the scratch races at the recent Timaru sports; Frank Carey, tho present quarter mile champion and all the prominent riders in the Dominion. Record entries have been received for the handicap events, which should providu splendid finishes, as riders have demonstrated their fitneßS in recent holiday sports meetings. The programme, which consists of thirtyfive events, will start punctually at eight I o'cloofc.
