The team of Australian bowlers who willcompete in the New Zealand championship tournament commencing at Auckland next week, arrived from Sydney to-day by the Marama. The players are Messrs W. Swain (skip), of the Carlton Club, Melbourne; T. Allatt, Elwood Club, Melbourne; F. Dunham, Melbourne; and H. Crate, Princes Park, Melbourne. Mrs Booth, Mrs Crate, and Mrs Swain are with the party. ■ "We are essentially fast green player* Baid Mr Swain, and we realise that there may be a considerable difference between the turf here and in Melbourne, where we have had a long spell of dry weather, but we hope to make a good show. It l» •comforting reflection that we have a week for practice before the serious business of the visit *Mr Swain is the winner of twelve club championships, and two years ago ho was runner-up for the championship of Australia. ELLESMERE ASSOCIATION. For the first day's play in It*, annual tournament, which took place on the Leeston green on Monday, the Ellesrnere Bowling Association was favoured with ideal weather, and the green waa In aplendid order. Play commenced soon after 8 o'clock in tho morning and continued until nearly eight in the evening. It is Intended to complete the tournament next Saturday. There are still five games to be played in the singles, and three in the doubles. Messrs 6. W. Purser and H. A. Brown were the green superintendents. The following are details of the play:— SINGLES. In the first round of thei Ingles, which were played on the sudden-death system, J. 8. McClelland beat M. Home, J. H. Hampton beat P. Chamberlain, and A. E. Withell beat J. P. McEvedy. All the others had byes. In round two, J. Hannah beat H. A. Brown, R. Hannah beat B. "Volckman, M. Ourran won from D. W. Hayes, G. W. Purser won from C. A. Wright, B. J. Parkin , won from W. 0. Eggleton, J. Burgess won
