♦ KEEN COMPETITION. (TRISS ASSOCIATION TILIGEAU.) BLENHEIM, January 1. Ti'.ero was a large crowd at Picton to-day,, on tho occasion of the twelfth New Year's Day regatta. The weather was dull, and a fittuj westerly breeze made things a bit tricky for the oarsmen. Crews were present, ill addition to the Marlborough Clubs, from Petone, Star (Wellington), and the Wellington Clubs. The results are: Maiden Fours, one mile—Picton No. 1 1, Star (Blenheim) No. 22. Also started: Petone, Wellington, Blenheim No. 2, Waiian. Won by three feet; throe lengths between second and third. Time, 6min 5 3-5 sec. Senior Fours, two miles—Wairau No. 2 1. Only starter. The other crews were too late at the starting post and the lace started without them. Single Sculls—Picton No. 1 (C. Tarrant) Youths' Fours, one mile —Star (Blenheim) 5. Also started: Wellington, Arapawa, Wairan, Fetone. Won by a quarter of ft length; four lengths between second and third. Time, 6min 7 i-osec. Junior Pairs, one mile—Star 1, Wairau 2. Blenheim No. 2 3. Also started: Petone, Blenheim No. 1. Wo« by a quarter of a length. Time, 7min 11 2-ssec. Light-weight Maiden Fours, one mile— Picton 1. Blenheim 2, Wellington 3. Also started: Petone, Star. Wop by four lengths. Time, 6min 31 2-Sseo. Senior Pairs, one mile and a half—Wairau. Only starter. Maiden Pairs—Wairau 1, Star No: 2 2, Blenheim No. 1 3.. Also started: Blenheim No. 2, Wellington. Won by a length. Time, 7min 6 4-Jsec.

Junior Fours—Picton 1, Petone 2, Star 3. Also started: Blenheim, Wairau. Won by four lengths. Time, Omin 31 3-ssec. Maiden Double Scalls—Star 1, Wellington 2, Petone 3. Only starters. "Won by three lengths. Time, Gmin 59 l-osec. buoy. Little Tikao, and Brough's Bay, back, to the starting point Miro finished 31 minutes ahead of Yvonne. Rover did not complete the distance, retiring after sailing two rounds.
