STRUCK BY FALLING ROCK.

MOUNT EGMONT CLIMBER BADLY INJURED. (P£2&3 ASSOCIATION TBUGBAK.) NEW PLYMOUTH, December-30. High up on the, slopes of Mount Ifigmont to-day, a distressing accident occurred, Mrs Marks, of Hamilton, having both her legs broken by a rock, which became detached from the mountainside and rolled down amongst a part', consisting of Mr'and Mrs Marks, and Mr and Mrs Williams, all or Hamilton.

The members of the party, who had been staying at the m North Egmonfc hostel for several days, left the nostel without guides on a climb to the summit this morning. When within 1500 feet of the top, Mrs Marks was gome distance ahead of the party, one of whom saw the rock tumbling down the steep mountainside, and called out to Mrs Marks, but too late to avert an accident. The big stone crashed into the woman's legs, badly smashing one, and cracking the bone of the other." A member of the party immediately left for the hostel, from which a party set out with a stretcher. Then commenced a tortuous descent over, shifting scoria and a slippery track. The hostel was reached late in the afternoon and the injured woman was at once conveyed to the New Plymouth Hospital.
