YOUNG MAN'S ESCAPE.
A young man named Peter Giant, of 901 Colombo street, had a fortunate escape from serious injury yesterday morning, when his car overturned on the New Brighton road. Grant was returning to town alone after taking home to New Brighton some friends who had been with him at a party. When he was turning the corner from Palmer's road into River road his car, a heavy seven-seater, left the road and plunged into the grass alongside. Striking a mound of earth, it somersaulted, coming to rest upside down at the foot of a clump of willows. Grant was pinned underneath, and lay in a semi-conscious state _ from 2 a.m. to 5.15 a.m., when a dairyman found him and assistance was called. Dr. Glasgow, who waa called to the soeue, drove Grant home. He was apparently little the worse for the acoideht. Fortunately-he was thrown into a depression beside a heap of debris; or the capsized car would have no doubt fallen heavily on him.
