Daniel Defoe lived in Church street, Stoke Ncwington—now .1 suburb in the North of London—from 1700 until shortly before his death at Cripplegate in 1731. His house, which ha? been demolished, stood in four acres of ground and the site is marked by Defoe road. Until the other day no memorial of the author had existed in Stoke Newington (where practically all his greater works were written)" beyond the namin? of the road built on " his garden. Now a replica of Frampton's bust of Defoe (at the Cripplegate Institnte) has been placed in the Public Library.
