CHRISTMAS COMPETITION. YESTERDAY'S PLAY. Light was very favourable yesterday for play in the Canterbury Croquet Association's Christmas competition, which was advanced another etago at thu United Club's green. Results wore as follows: LADIES' CLUB PAIRS. Second Semi-final—Mrs Smith and Mrs Tyers beat Mrs Barnes and Mr 3 Oxlcy, 26 ' 19 - This game wa3 rather a long one, iu which the winners gradually forged ahead, to win easily. The standard of play was eood. CANTERBURY HANDICAP. First Semi-final —T. i'. Chambers ( —1) beat Mrs Dixon (4), 26-12. Mrs Dixon was the first to get going against Chambers, and by the use of her bisques got. to one back with both balls. Afterwards Chambers, playing well, worked himself into an excellent position, and won casi ly. JUNIOR HANDICAP. Semi-finals—Mrs McCullough (6) beat Mrs Corbett (G>), 26-18. From start to finish this game wng very even. It fioon resolved itself into a lmrd struggle, but generally Mrs McCullojgh had the better r,f the piny. Miss Harris (0) beat Mrs lTinaldi (9J), 26-03. , , . . In this game plfiv was most enleriainmg. It was evenly contested, as the scores indicate. Final. Mrs McCullough beat Harris, Play in this final was excellent, both ladies opening well. Mrs McCullough, however, soon showed her. superiority in the wielding o£ the club and in her judgment. She won fairly easily, but she had to kee>p an eye on Miss Harris, who was responsible for sonic cjood shots. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. Second Round-A. G V. Ross beat Tj. Caugbley, 2-1; S.
