MAGISTERIAL.

(Before Messrs H. F. Herbert and P. L. Davies, J.P.'s.) DRUNKENNESS. Eight statutory first offenders for drunkenness were each fined 10s, in default twentyfour hours' imprisonment. MAINTENANCE. Jack Lee, a donkeyman on the s.s. Manuka, had a complaint made against him for the maintenance of an illegitimate child. On the application of Senior-Sergeant H. Martin a remand was granted until January 4th, bail being allowed in the sum of £SO. CHARGE OF THEFT. A young man, whose name was- suppressed, was charged with the theft of a gramophone, valued at £ll 15s, at Palmerston North, on November 6th. He was remanded until January 6th. It was stated by the police that the accused was an habitual criminal, but the suppression of the name was asked for, because his mother was very ill at the present time, and publication of her son's name would be a great shock to her. OBTAINING CREDIT. An eighteen-year-old domestic, who had been before the Court previously, when her name was suppressed, appeared on a charge of obtaining credit by fraud from a Christchurch draper and a dressmaker. She was remanded until January 6th. == .
