SOME OF THE PROVISIONS

Christchureh By-Law Xo. 14 comes into force to-morrow. The provision which will probably interest the great est number of people is that prohibiting pillion-riding on bicycles.

This clause reads as follows: —"It shall not be lawful for more than one person in any street to ride upon any bicycle or motor-cycle at one and the same time, and in the event of two or more persons so riding, each of them shall be guilty of an offence. Provided that this section shall not apply to the carriage of any person riding in a proper sidecar attached to a motor-cycle, or of any person riding on a proper seat fixed at the rear of a motor-cycle, to which at the time a sidecar carrying a passenger is attached not to the carriage on a bicycle in addition to the rider thereof of a child of not more than three years of age seated in a chair or seat securely attached to such bicycle in front of the rider."

Other provisions in the by-law, which was the subject of a resolution confirming the special order passed by the City Council at last meeting, are as follows: —

Parking motor-cars: In streets where a tram line is laid, cars must draw up parallel to the kerb. In other streets cars must be left at an angle of not more than 45 degrees, and facing towards tho kerb. Overhanging loads must not project more than three inches outside the hub cap of wheels. Offside rule: Drivers are compelled to give preference to vehicles on their right. Overtaking traffic is prohibited within 20 feet of or on an intersection. The license fees for public vehicles arc increased.

Cyclists arc prohibited from holding to tramcars or other vehicles in motion. All.traffic must give fire engines right of way. , Driving stock: Mobs of cattle must not exceed 50, and of small cattle, sheep, etc., 600.
