HEAVY DAMAGE.
NEW SOUTH WALES FLOODS. (IT CABLC—FIISt ItIOCUTIOX-'COPnUORT.) (AUSTRALIA* A*l> H.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATIOIT.) SYDNEY, December 30. Although the floods have subsided at Newcastle and Cessnock, and the people are able to return to their homes, additional heavy rains in the central coast districts caused serious floods in the Hunter Valley where the river overflowed its banks submerging farm lands and rich lucerne flats. The damage is very extensive. Despite heavy falls in some centres the rains will greatly benefit the primary industries. Most of the harvest had already been taken off before the rain, while the present condition of the soil will enable wheat-growers to rommence fallowing. The damage to the standing crop is negligible.
