The Children's Endowment Bill has been framed and will be introduced as soon as Parliament meets on January Uth. It will apply to families where the breadwinner earns not more than £SOO a year.
The sum of 6s weekly will he allowed for each child under 14, and in tho rnso of illness of the father the grant will be given for children over UIllegitimates and children of aliens are not included.
The endowments will absorb about £7,000,000 a year and will affect 452,000 children.
UNIONISTS DISOWN BILL; (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) SYDNEY, December 29. . An official statement issued by the Australian Workers' Union says that Mr Lang's chUd endowment scheme is contrary fo the policy of the Labour Party, and is identical with the child endowment proposals of the National Party. It is foreign to Labour sentiment, and iniquitous, to the last degree. The statement concludes: —"Lahour's own policy of motherhood endowment is virtually different frotn the scheme outlined by the Lang Government."
