MONTHLY MEETING
„. At, the monthly. meeting of the. Christchurch Ministers' Association there waß-.an attendance of 23 members. The president, Eev. E. D.. Patchelt, was in the chair. The meeting' was' opened with prayer by -the. Eev. Gardiner Miliar. ' ' Eevs.- SharpeJ Kaine,. McDowall, Eoberlson, and Major Bear were welcomed by the president as members of the Association. The president also very' heartily welcomed Archdeacon Haggitt, who attended' the meet-, ing in connexion with the "Come to Church 1 ' campaign to be inaugurated in June. ReV. 1 S. ;J, Worrcu reported that the Gipsy Smith' Mission Committee were going ahead 1 with arrangements for the Mission. : Tho'secretary .of the Association, Eev. A.< W. Stuart, 'reported upon the activities of the sub-committee appointed to considerways and means of inaugurating a to Church" campaign during the month of June. Mr Stuart outlined a comprehensive selieme of organisation, in which it was hoped every minister and' congregation in Christchurch would take part. A house-to-house canvass of. the City and suburbs would bo made during tho last week in May, whencards inviting people to attend the tervices of their own Church during June would no'distributed.' The City would be divided into blocks, and captains appointed to superintend the work of preparation. Sumner, North Beach, and Brighton were included in.the scheme and it was anticipated that some of the country districts would ■also take pait. Tho Churches would cooperate in the canvassing and in the advertising and every Church would bo encournged to rise to "its opportunities during tho '■Come to Church" month, knowing that H was free to use its own method*, and proclaim the Gospel in its own way. . The following were requested to convene heelings in their respective- -districts to ckct captains and organise workers:--Revs. McAto, Spier; Hames, Hutchings Sharpe, Stuart, Young, Patchctt, Crr.wiord, Archdeacon Haggitt, James, and Can-m Bean The Eev. Gardiner Miller is the convener ot the Publicity Committee. ' ' The meeting, on the motion of the president, expressed its deeped sympathy with the minister and congregation of br. David's Presbyterian Church in the.misfortune which had befallen them throug.i fiic the church property. . • Heartfelt sympathy was oprewed by ti r meeting/with the.Eev...Samuel Lawry in hia. present. illness. . . ' THo'Ttev 0, Abernothy was accorded a hearty vote' of thanks for his hospitality.
