THAMES, May 12.
The Minister for Minos, the Hon. G. ,T. Anderson, i)aid a visit to the dis- i tric.t yesterday, and was entertained last night by several of the local bodies. Replying to a toast in. his honour, the Minister said that heliad looked for r . ward to a mining revival, but .could' not commend the men who stayed in the cities buying and selling shares. They wanted genuine, mining, not mining that placed money in the promoters' pockets. Gold production had decreased this year by 18,935 ounces, valued at £79,424, and silver decreased by 82,949 ounces, valued at £11,208. He was willing to assist the working miner and' the public, and this year legislation would be brought down giving control over -mining prospectuses. Coal' production, the Minister added, had increased by 31,175 tons, though 'the. employees decreased' by 145. The Minister foreshadowed legislation- deab ■ing, with ..the' discharge of oil fuol on '\vat'er«'. and an alteration.of the Harbours Act to stop the building of unwarranted harbours, such as that at Opiinake. • '..-■:'■
