RAILWAY STRIKE ENDED.
. TROUBLE IN SOUTH AFRICA. (BT CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COmtIOUT.t UUSTBALIAN AND R.I. CABLI ASSOCIATION.) CAPE TOWN, April 5. Rigorous military measures succeeded in ending the railway strike at Lorenzo Marques, alter four months. Prisoners, however, are still carried as hostages for the safety of trains, and deportations continue, the strikers being replaced by importations. The climax was reached when the Commissioner of Police, Senhor Desousa, was riddled with bullets. He dined at the Cordoza Hotel, aud while walking to headquarters, two concealed men opened fire, and 14 bullets pierced his body.
