BOTTLE THROWN.

AT DRIVER OF MOVING TRAIN. (PBEBB association teliqbam.) PALMERSTON N., April 6. When the train to Palmerston North from Napier was near the Terrace End Station last night, one of two men standing on- a side track threw a bottle containing liquid at the driver of the train, missing his head by inches. The. bottle struck the upper ledge of the engine cab, at the back of Driver Lewin's head, and was' smashed to pieces on the ironwork. The men evidently were not under the influence of liquor, as they were seen running away swiftly. The smell of the liquid from the bottle was rather similar to that of alcohol, and yet it was not like any alcoholic beverage in appearance. The train, at the time of the incident, was travelling at about 30 miles an hour.
