FIRES.
DWELLING-HOUSE DESTROYED. A six-roomed wooden dwelling at the corner of Saunders and Creek roads, Allenton, ofrned and occupied by Mr E. Crysell, .was totally destroyed by fire shortly before 5 o'clock yesterday morning. Mr Crysell was disturbed from hisf sleep by a noise, and he got up to find a portion of the house in flames. He and his wife and five children just had time to get out with few effects of little value. _ • . The Ashburtan Volunteer Fire Brigade responded to the call at 4.50, hut as the house was out of the high pressure area ij; had to be content with saving a shed with a bucket brigade. The house was insured for £660 and the furniture for £2OO, both in the New Zealand Insurance Office. Mr Crysell will he ft heavy loser. COTTAGE BURNED. A t*vo-roomed cottage> owned by J. C. Wallace and occupied by Archibald Maekay, was destroyed by fire about midnight on Monday night at Hanmer Springs: The insurances are not known. Some personal effects of Mr Maekay's were saved. _____ t TOTAL LOSS OF RESIDENCE. (rails 4iiocutio» t-lmiam.) WHAKATANE, April 6. Fire destroyed the seven-roomed residence of W. H. Sisam, at. Taneatua, last evening. When discovered, the Are had a firm hold, and only a few blanket! could be saved. The building was in-1 sured for £I2OO, but the furniture was uninsured. Insurances on Bowan's 10-roomed boarding-house, destroyed by fire on Monday morning, were £BOO on the building and £3OO on the furniture. Be prepared. See that you have adequate insurance on your house and furniture. Consult the Mercantile and General Insurance Co., Ltd., Hereford street. It is a-local company with all its capital invested in New Zealand, therefore prompt settlement. —6
