RUGBY CONTROL.

VOICE OF DOMINION. REJECTED PROPOSALS. The New Zealand Rugby Union has ecnt a. letter to the English Rugby Union (states flio London "Evening News") protesting gainst the refusal of the International Board to agree to Now Zealand's scheme for an Imperial Rugby Advisory Board, with proper representation of the Dominion Rugby Unions. At present .the International Board is composed only of representatives of England Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, and; the KißioMfwl that in view of he position E now occupy in the game they should M*e a direct -voice in the control of ita affairs. Rejected. When conference was held in London last December the Domimon roprs-«.ntatives--Mt Dean and Mr Wilson, of Bentat,yveß-_i Brown and New Z-aaland ana ui. jj. «. .... M r \• C Wallace, of Australia—urged that the overseas Unions should have proper representation on «>me kind of Imperial Kuelrv body. . , Their propolis, however, «n .turned down and the International Board insisted on the Pominion Rujrby bodies being represented through the English Rugby Union. Thi<* decision has piqued the overseas players, and their dissatisfaction has found expression in the New Zealand RugbyUnion's letter. In this loiter ifr is stated: "We 'feel that the Board has recognised the principle that the Dominion* should be consulted jnore frequently, for it has recommended a triennial conference." The Sentimental BondSeveral objections to this are m»niiotted, aad it is then added: v . "We feel now that the Adviaory Board has been turned down neither South Africa, New South Wales, nor New Zealand is having its true status recognised. We feel that each of these countries has proved it«. right to at least a. junior position on the International Board, or a voice in the control of Rugby. We ourselves have not the slightest desire to dominate; all wo require is recognition—the right to speak and vote. "At present our status, with our roll of 60,000 players, is only equal to that of a club in England! It will surely be admitted by everybody that this-is not in keeping with our true position." The letter concludes with a hope that something will be done "to enable us to retain affiliation with your Union—a sentimental bond which, we trust, there will never be cause to sever. '

Uniformity the Object. Dr. L. G. Brown stated that the root of tho whole matter is that the Dominions have only got a voice in the English Rusty Union, to whom they are affiliated, and that they want direct representation on the International Board. "We want uniformity in the game," he said, "and we desire that an Imperial Board should control the game; in other words, wo aim at bringing about uniformity in the rulings. "At present tho different unions are at sixes and serene, each recognising Taried interpretations of the laws of the game. When it comes to international matches, however, we have to go back to international laws, and it is apt to lead to confusion. "Tho English Rugby Union arc rather disinclined, I think to press this scheme, because they are somewhat afraid that tho control of tho game will be taien out of fheu hands. They are tho dominant factor in the game, and naturally enough take up tho attitude 'We started this game and we want to control it.' "Justified." "Considering the number of men playing Rugby in the Dominions, and the positions which these countries now hold, we feel that we are justified in asking for direct representation on the International Board*" Commander Cooper, secretary of the Rugby Union, sail that the letter which had been received from New Zealand would probably be considered at the next meeting of tho International Board in September.
