DAVIS CUP. AUSTRALIAN PAIR. ANDERSON'S SELECTION CRITICISED. (BT CABLK—PEKSS ASSOCUTIOH—COrTMOBT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND V.Z. CABIJS ASSOCIATION.) •CEW YORK, September 6. Adverse criticism is levelled against J. O. Anderson for the substitution of Hawkes for himself in. tho doubles of tho Davis Cup match. The reason for this step was the poor showing of the French in tho American National Doubles and tho splondid team work of Hawkes and Patterson. Although they were defeated in tho final, the result of Saturday's play showed that tho criticisms were 'justified. Hawkes was not equal to the strain. Had Anderson played, the match have been faster with probably a different result. Anderson, iu a practico mutch with Alonzo on Saturday, displayed splendid form.
