The Navy Department is preparing to send an expedition to Sumatra, to obscrvo the solar eclipse, visible, there on January 14th. The expedition, -which will sail from San Francisco on. September 18th, will inelivlo astronomers from the Naval Observatory, Washington, and Blount A\ilson Observatory, California. Three ton? of equipment aro already on route to San Francisco. A cinema film of the eclipse and the activities of the expedition will ho made. Tho vessel will bo .sent to conduct radio experiments. A collection of zoological specimens for tiie National Museum is also projected.
