ADMINISTRATIVE POWER

A deputation from the Australian National Research Council "waited on Mr lii'lK'C (Federal I'rimo Minister) and urged that the French claim to administer Adelie Land should be challenged, and an Australian claim to administer it formally established; and that international sanction should he sought for tho administration by Australia of tlit- whole of that part of the Antarctic Continent between the meridians of 90 degrees west and 160 degrees east. Mr Bruce said the situation was occupying the close attention of the' Ministry, which had opened negotiations with the British Government early in December. The question was necessarily very complicated, and could not bo settled immediately. The claim was still being ftrongly urged through the proper channels.
