Fourteen aeroplanes left Croydon at 6 o'clock this morning for a two days' race for tho King's Cup. The course is two circuits of a course round Harrogate, Newcastle, Renfrew, Blackpool, Bristol, and Croydon, and tho total clistince is IGQO miles. The thick fog; in; places interfered with the early stages of tho race, and three aeroplanes had to land, tbo?o of Master Sempill, Alan Cobham, and H. H. Perry, but they resumed the flight. Major iWlman, who descended in a field at Luton, damaged his machine and retired.

Ten machines were forced to land, including Hinkler's which landed on a workshop. Most of them resumed the flight, but in addition to Bulman, Captain C. D. Barnard, who was in Donoghue's machine, after descending at Luton and restarting came down at Doncaster duo to engine trouble, and Captains Courtney and Baggs crashed at Newcastle.

At present there arc only four in the running, namely, Captain F. L. Barnard, Flight-Lieu tenant Jonew, Hinkler, and Major Hemming. The weather conditions, as described by one pilot, wero filthy. Tho four survivors were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd at Croydon, whore tho competitors had to land before ten o'clock. Hinkler landed in a shower of rain with only seventeen minutes to spare, arriving at 9.43 a.m. Barnard, flying a Siskin-Five, entered by Sir Eric Geddes, was first to complete to-day's circuit of Britain, reaching Oroydon. at seven o'clock. Jones, flying a Siskin-Four, Hemming (D-H 37), and Hinkler all arrived at subsequent intervals in tho order named. Hinkler decided not to resume, and tho remaining three competitors ascended in unfavourable conditions to go over the same route reversed. BARNARD FIRST HOME.. (SEUTZR'S TELEGRAMS.} (Received July sth, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 4. Barnard won the King's Cup. Ho completed to-day's circuit in 8 hours 17 minutes. He described the conditions as splendid. Ho also won the Cup in 1922. CONSOLATION RACE. tArSTIULUN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received July 6th, 11.55 p.m.) LONDON, July 4. The consolation race ovor 420 miles for competitors who foil out of tho King's Cup race was won. by tho Master of Scinphill, with Cobham second, and Hinckler third. All finished within eight minutes.
