M'INTOSH CHALLENGE SHIELD.
RULES ADOPTED. A meeting of the Rangiora and Kaiapoi committees appointed to draw up rules governing the inter-borough competitions for the shield presented by tho Mayors of Kaiapoi ond Rangiora was held at Rangiora on Saturday night. The Mayor of Rangiora, Mr R. Mcintosh, presided, and' there were twenty-four representatives present. A very comprehensive draft of rules had been drawn up by Cr. I. M. Allen, and these with slight alterations, were approved. The most important are:—That the shield shall be known as the Mcintosh Challenge Shield, to be competed, for each year between the different sections of sport of the two boroughs; the shield to be hung in the Borough Council i Chamber of the borough holding it for the time being; for the purposes o£ this competition the year to commence on the first day of May and end on the last day of April. It-was decided that an Association be formed, to be known as the Mcintosh Shield Association, and to be representative of all sections of sport in the boroughs, and that each section of sport shall affiliate with tho Association before being eligible to enter the competitions. The Mayor is to be chairman of the Association, and the town clerk, ex officio, secretary to the committee. It was also decided that a programme of contests be drawn up during the month of May in each year, and there shall be one contest each between ' teams representing each affiliated section of sport; one point for » win and half a point for a draw. At the end of each year the shield points of each borough shall be added together, and the borough gaining the most points shall be deemed to have won the shield for the ensuing year. The following sections of sport were agreed upon for this year: Croquet, cricket, tennis, bowls, Fire Brigade events, rifle shooting, golf, football, hockey, basketball, billiards and snooker and miniature rifle shooting. Rangiora won the draw- for the first game, whic'.l will be croquet, sis players each taking part. For the rest of this year the competitions will be held alternately at Rangiora and Kaiapoi. A committee of'six, three from each borough, was appointed to decide on any urgent or special matter requiring immediate attention. The comprises—Rangiora: Dr. Allen, Messrs W. Smith and R. Bayley; Kaiapoi: Dr. Ramsey, Messrs L. r". Evans and J. Bosomworth. In the billiards competition it was decided to confine players to a three miles radius of each borough. At the close of the meeting a hearty vote of thanks and appreciation was passed to Dr. Allen for the trouble he had gone to in preparing the draft of the rules. Mr H. Mcintosh, Mayor of Kaiapoi,. was also accorded a hearty vote of thanks for suggesting this annual competition.
