At the Stadium Charlie Purdio (9st 8Jlb), New Zealand, fought a twenty rounds drawn battle with Jimmy Allen (9st CJlb). Although the fight was colourless and' uninteresting, Purdie showed himself fast and clever, but his punches wero unconvincing. Tho crowd on two occasions counted the men out. Against a different style of boxer Purdie would make a much better showing. MELBOURNE BOUTS. (Received Julv sth, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, July 4. Ben Martin defeated Dick Congress on points in a ten rounds bout. Charlie Pilkington secured the verdict over Bert- McCarthy on points in a fight of a similar distance. DEMPSET IN ENGLAND. (Received July sth, 11.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 5. Jack Dempsey appeared at exhibition bouts at Brighton. He received deafening applause. He boxed Phil Scott and others, and showed that he has lost none of his old form.
