Although the fight was colourless and' uninteresting, Purdie showed himself fast and clever, but his punches wero unconvincing. Tho crowd on two occasions counted the men out. Ben Martin defeated Dick Congress on points in a ten rounds bout. Charlie Pilkington secured the verdict over Bert- McCarthy on points in a fight of a similar distance. DEMPSET IN ENGLAND. (Received July sth, 11.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 5. Jack Dempsey appeared at exhibition bouts at Brighton. He received deafening applause. He boxed Phil Scott and others, and showed that he has lost none of his old form.
