His dam, Lady Ball, was only a moderate, 'but her pedigree is full of high-class blood, and although Horoscope is a typical Absurd in appearance, ho has no doubt thrown to the distaff sido or his pedigree as far a stamina is concerned. Whether the winnings of a racehorse meant only the first place moneys it won or all the place moneys was the question at issue in an suction ia the Magistrate's Court at Hamilton last •week. H. R. Turnbull (Mr Newbery) claimed £4O from J. W. Anderton (Mr McLiver), as the balance of profits duo on the running of the racehorse passionate. Mt Newbery said tho racehorse was leased to defendant by plaintiff on the basis that Turnbull should receive 15 per cent, and Anderton Ho per cent, of the winnings. There is some talk of the well-known hurdle horseman W. Bowden settling in Melbourne (says a Wellington exchange). Such a good rider .should not want for opportunities in Victoria, as tho riders and jumpers there at the present time could tench him nothing.

The Clarcnceux—La Paix filly .in W. Hobbs's stable is on the small side, and is to be turned out to giro her an opportunity of further development before being put into serious, training. The Solfcrino —Elysian fill.v, Coleur do llose, in the same stable, is growing fast, and may need a little time before she comes to her best. Sir Geo.
