HUNTING.
CHRISTCHUBCH HOUNDS. (By Hark Forard.) The Christchurch Hounds met on Saturday last at "Homeby," Kirwee. Tins Meet is,one o£ the oldest places our pack now hunts over, and up to a few years ago always provided oue of the best day's hunting in the season; but, like a lot of big estates, Homeby was finally sold to the Government for, returned soldier settlement. With so many settlers about, the crops generally.'interfere with hunting, and' instead of the/ good runs we used to. get, namely, a "run about five "seasons ago, when a jack hare" ran us close on six miles before she was killed, they are now veryfinucli shorter. On Saturday,'with scent catchy and a cold southerly rain falling, it was very difficult for our huntsman to give us any sport at all, but Selby found a; hare quickly, and the hounds, running up wind, went about two and a half miles before they ran out of scent on the Norwood-Charing Cross road. Another nn later was a good one, but owing to fesh hares getting up, ' the pack were denied their quarry, which they certainly would have killed, ,and they were therefore packed up and taken home. The club wish to thank Messrs J. R. Belcher, Pascoe, Hamilton, Ward, and Hansen for allowing the h'puuds to cross their country. It was pleasing to see former members out amongst us again going strong, but unfortunately they had one of their team badly cut, which will mean a spell till next season. The Point-to-Point Steeplechase Meeting at Dunsandel on Saturday has been cancelled. Thoso hunting were:—Mrs Gilbert Grigg on Morning; Miss Rutherford on Romance; Huntsman on Monowai; Messrs G. H.
